The Barn Signs

Williams Arena (known as The Barn) is the home of the University of Minnesota Golden Gopher’s Men’s and Women’s basketball teams. Constructed in 1928, The Barn is one of the oldest Div.1 basketball facilities still in use. During a recent renovation project, we decided to hand-paint some signs on the walls (including one of the old brick faces). I started with sketches, made vector mocks of a few versions and made a final layout.

I was lucky enough to paint this with renowned sign painter Mike Meyer, from Mazeppa, MN. Mike is an incredibly talented sign painter and an excellent instructor.  I’ve taken lettering classes with Mike and learned so much in just a few days. I highly recommend his workshops, found here.
